​27 June 2017: Diversifying economies beyond land-based activities and along coasts is critical to achieving the sustainable development goals and delivering smart, sustainable and inclusive growth globally. This statement was made yesterday by the Minister of Ocean Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries, and Shipping, Mr Premdut Koonjoo, at the opening of the Fourth Meeting of Parties of the Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA) which is being held from 23 to 30 June 2017 at the Aanari Hotel in Flic en Flac.    Mr Koonjoo recalled that Mauritius is focusing on the ocean economy as a new frontier for development since its ocean territory, with its 2.3 million square kilometers, holds huge economic potential.   The governmen ...

​First IORA Ministerial Blue Economy Conference in Mauritius   The First Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Ministerial Blue Economy Conference was officially inaugurated by the Right Honourable Sir Anerood Jugnauth, GCSK, KCMG, QC, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius at Le Meridien, Pointe aux Piments, this morning.   In his address, the Head of Government reaffirmed his “vision to develop the ocean assets of Mauritius into one of the innovative pillars of our economy.” According to him, the Ocean Economy is “a pillar that would unlock investments of approximately USD 600 million, and create 25, 000 jobs.”   The island has a vast maritime zone of 2.3 million square kilometres which  represents nearly 1% of the world’s ocea ...

Launching Ceremony : Multi-Purpose Support Vessel "Investigator II"

  Investigator II was constructed at the Stebercraft Pty Ltd. boatyard, Australia and was co-funded by the Government of Mauritius and Government of Australia. The vessel is 18.6m in length and 5.4m in width with fuel capacity of 8,150 litres. She can cover 1,200nm at a speed of 10 knots and can accommodate 12 persons.
