Investigator II was constructed at the Stebercraft Pty Ltd. boatyard, Australia and was co-funded by the Government of Mauritius and Government of Australia.

The vessel is 18.6m in length and 5.4m in width with fuel capacity of 8,150 litres. She can cover 1,200nm at a speed of 10 knots and can accommodate 12 persons.

Investigator II is a multi-purpose support vessel which will be used for the training of fishers, survey of marine resources, stock assessment and research programmes.​​​
